Mark has over thirty years experience of health systems strengthening at national, regional and local levels, in the UK and Europe, Russia, Africa, the Middle East, South and East Asia, Australia and South America. His core competencies are in the development of healthcare financing, hospital corporatization and public private partnership – topics on which he consults for the World Bank Group and WHO. Mark also has growing interest and experience in strengthening healthcare governance in and across the public and private health sectors. Between 2017 and 2019 Mark was closely involved in the development of a Health Sector Transformation Strategy for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He took up his first NED role, in Ireland, in mid 2018 and is working towards the goal of expanding his NED portfolio. He is currently undertaking two projects for WHO EMRO, via Economics by Design, advising the Federal Ministry of Health of the transitional Government of Sudan on the development of an Essential Benefit Package and Provider Payment Mechanisms to advance Universal Healthcare Coverage across Sudan.
